I’m Write Here!

Hola … Salut … Hallo … Ni hao … An yeung … Konnichiwa!

Hi. My name’s Nneka and I’m a Canadian-born Caribbean-bred creative writer. I grew up in The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, but later attended university in Canada, Taiwan and South Korea. I also spent one year in Japan teaching English with the JET (Japan Exchange Teaching) Programme.

In my final two years of high school I entered the language stream, concentrating on French, Spanish and English Literature in Form Six. So, you’ve got it … I’m in love with language and language-learning. I have dived into or dipped my toes in Spanish, French, Chinese, German, Korean and Japanese and have also done some foreign language teaching locally and abroad. That’s actually my other passion … education!

When I travel, I love snapping all the local colour with my nifty Nikon camera. When I have my super-duper image-maker in hand, I blissfully forget the rest of the world. I especially enjoy capturing the cultural beauty of the places that I visit … and then joy in sharing them with family and friends.

I love all things artistic – music, dance, art, literature, photography – and am grateful for every opportunity to be creative. I love blending colour into poetic palettes, crafting words into works of art, and making imagery sing like a songbird whose blushing music paints spring blossoms with joy.

Most importantly I love being me – playful, whimsical, poetic, romantic, childlike, and curious about life. I am forever chasing butterfly dreams, ever bundling a huge bouquet of kind thoughts, or pouring out jugs of refreshment into the hearts of people I meet. I am a star-gazing comet-catcher of contented wishing. I am a flower-press lantern soul looking to light up the night with hope and beauty.

So this really is a sweet place to be … welcome to my site! Welcome to my life! Welcome to my world! Explore, discover, delight!

This comment is in relation to your audio poems. I truly appreciate the poem “The Swan”. The ugly duckling eventually matured into a swan. Also your comments after “The Wishing Star”, were timely. The Starfish gazed up and wished to be like those above but instead needed to find out who it was preordained to be. Thank you.
